On Sept. 4, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State of Maryland, and Chesapeake Bay Trust announced the continuation and expansion of the Green Streets, Green Towns, Green Jobs (G3) Initiative. These groups have formed a strong federal-state-and-local partnership, and provided a joint investment of $3.4 million to the G3 Initiative. The goal of the program is to improve water quality within Chesapeake Bay by increasing tree canopy; capturing and filtering rainwater; and improving watershed protection, community livability, and economic vitality.
