Report Lists Efficacy of Best Management Practices at Managing Highway Runoff

The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), part of the U.S. National Academies, recently released a synthesis of practices for transportation agencies with total maximum daily load (TMDL) obligations.

Transportation networks can fall into many watershed jurisdictions; therefore, state transportation departments can be listed as a stakeholder in multiple TMDLs. The NCHRP report is a literature review that combines data on structural and institutional stormwater control performance and cost with interviews of 12 state transportation departments.
