In June, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a series of videos on local efforts to restore urban waters. The Urban Water Voices series focuses on community efforts to improve public outreach, education, and environmental stewardship. Videos include improvements already made and unique challenges still facing local waterbodies across the U.S.
One of the videos features Stephen Paul DeVillo, a volunteer with the Bronx River Alliance. The Bronx River flows through both affluent and low-income neighborhoods. The goal of the Bronx River Alliance is to increase community engagement with the river, promoting river restoration and community revitalization. The group would like to see the river achieve swimmable status.
