Building stakeholder relationships is key to successfully implementing stormwater programs and projects. Stakeholder support is also needed for effective outreach. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released an updated version of Getting in Step: Engaging Stakeholders in Your Watershed, originally released in 2001. The guide is intended to help government agency personnel involved in watershed management activities gain community support and protect water resources through cooperative action. The resource is part of EPA’s Getting In Step: Outreach Series, which includes a guide to watershed outreach campaigns, an online training module, and webcast. The guide covers building a stakeholder group, making decisions, establishing responsibilities, resolving conflicts, and more.
