This half day workshop will explore the anatomy of community revitalization. Hear from national experts and local practitioners. Get creative and cost-effective solutions to tackle site constraints and extreme weather through Green Infrastructure design. Come to network with industry colleagues. Meet experts across the private and public sectors. Participate in design activities. Contribute to a nationally distributed model process for communities engaged in building resilience.
Participants who submit their challenge sites, in advance, may be featured in a nationally-distributed site catalog on resilient redevelopment. WHY THIS MATTERS
Redevelopment policies and regulations impact owner and designer perceptions of opportunities. Challenging site conditions and risk aversion can mean project sites with Green Infrastructure requirements are avoided. Being informed about innovative approaches and clean water technologies can unlock a site’s potential. Innovators eager to adopt green infrastructure and deliver green sustainable, resilient projects may not be aware of the range of cost-effective solutions. There is a need for regulators, developers, designers, advocates, and academics to ground decision making in real-world difficult site conditions. All would benefit from an evaluation process linking work-around solutions with site type conditions. This workshop explores these needs through an educational charrette platform to provide collaborative informed designs and build a network of stakeholders across disciplines with a shared language for resilient redevelopment.
